Discipline of Prayer: Always Connected

Every workday, five days a week, I take the light rail into downtown Dallas. Only last week, this routine finally taught me a lesson about prayer.

In case you're not familiar with it a light rail commuter train, it runs on 25,000 volts of alternating current. All of this electricity runs through lines suspended above the tracks. It is transmitted to the train through a spring-loaded arm called a pantograph. Once the energy is on board, it is transformed into the direct current that supplies the locomotive's motors. Without that constant supply of 25,000 volts, the train would go nowhere. That pantograph has to be in constant contact with the high-power lines.

Paul told the Thessalonians, "Pray unceasingly" (1 Thess. 5:17). Part of what that means is that we must continually stay in contact with God, who supplies us with the of spiritual power we need to keep going. In other words, wherever we go and whatever we do, we have to maintain an awareness that we are in the presence of the Almighty.

King David knew of this need. In Ps. 139:7-12, he asks:
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from Your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, You are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there Your hand will guide me,
Your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me,
and the light become night around me,"
even the darkness will not be dark to You;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to You.

As a spiritual Being, on limited by time and space, God is omnipresent and omniscient. Nothing happens to us that He doesn't know about, nor is there a place we can go that is beyond His presence.

David's descendant, King Hezekiah, demonstrated his awareness of the same truth by his actions. When Sennacherib, king of Assyria, ordered that a threatening letter be read to Hezekiah and all of Jerusalem, 2 Kings 19:14 reports: "Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord." It is as if Hezekiah were saying to the Lord, " Here, read this!" Then, in the verses that follow, he asks the Lord to do something about it, and the Lord honors his request with an outstanding miracle.

It is true that devotional writers have long emphasized the spiritual discipline called "practicing the Presence." Nicholas Herman (c. 1605-1691), also known as "Brother Lawrence," in what is now known as The Practice of the Presence of God, wrote:
That it was a great delusion to think that the times of prayer ought to differ from other times. That we are as strictly obliged to adhere to God by action in the time of action, as by prayer in its season. That his prayer was nothing else but a sense of the presence of God, his soul being at that time insensible to everything but Divine love: and that when the appointed times of prayer were past, he found no difference, because he still continued with God, praising and blessing Him with all his might, so that he passed his life in continual joy; yet hoped that God would give him somewhat to suffer, when he should grow stronger" ("Fourth Conversation").

Such a concept has not been invented out of thin air. Jesus himself, just before ascending to the Father, promised his disciples, " I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matt. 28:20). notice that Jesus neither says, "I was with you," nor does he say "I will be with you." he says, " I am with you always." This " I am" seems to run parallel to his statement to the unbelieving Jews: " I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am" (John 8:58), "not I was." If the parallel is a valid one, Jesus' use of the present tense seems to signify that he is not limited by time or any other constraint on his ability to be aware of our needs and to bless. (After this thought occurred to me, I have found the same analysis in A. B. Bruce's commentary on Matthew in The Expositor's Greek Testament.)

Like the power lines strong above the light rail train, the power is always present and available. But we must make and maintain our connection with that power. With a constant awareness of God's presence, we will include him in every decision we make. We will give more care to where we go, what we do, and what we listen to, knowing that he goes with us, witnesses our actions, and hears what we hear. we will choose our words more carefully-not only the ones that express our petitions to him, but all of our words--realizing that we can not prevent him from listening to us.

And whenever we do pray, whether we offer praise, thanksgiving, petitions, confessions of Sin, or intercessions for others, a constant awareness of God's presence bolsters our confidence that he hears our prayers and will answer them according to his will. Don't let your pantograph droop. Oil its hinges, fix its spring. Stay connected.

Dream Theater - The Glass Prison

"The Glass Prison" is a song by the progressive metal band Dream Theater. Arguably one of the most aggressive and heavy tracks the band has ever released, it is 13:52 in length and is the first track on the Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence album. "The Glass Prison" alludes to the first three of the well known 12 steps of alcoholism rehabilitation created by Bill Wilson. The lyrics were written by the band's drummer, Mike Portnoy, about his experience with alcoholism. This track was often used to begin concerts since the World Tourbulence tour. Four sequels to "The Glass Prison", entitled "This Dying Soul", "The Root of All Evil", "Repentance" and "The Shattered Fortress", appeared on subsequent albums Train of Thought, Octavarium, Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds & Silver Linings, respectively. The follow-up songs reference the previous ones and each other, both lyrically and musically, and so may be considered a "suite", in the classical sense. The suite as a whole, which is generally referred to as the Twelve-step Suite, can be considered to be a sequel of sorts to "The Mirror" (found on 1994's Awake), as they reflect numerous thematic and lyrical ideas found in that song, but "The Mirror" is not considered a component of the suite. Though it is clear that Mike has stated that the songs reflect his alcoholism, it is unclear how deep it ran with him. Fans wonder but highly respect his right to privacy; he has (to date) never made an official statement regarding the ...

Atreyu - When Two Are One Lyrics

Atreyu When Two Are One Lyrics "When Two Are One" BANG! Explosions in my head that just won't quit A train has crashed into the wall around my heart and left the old me dead Obliterated STOP! My breathing in the night when you're not there The silence ringing through my ears and all I want to do is hear your voice But you're not there Drawn Together Painter's brush stroke Sleight of hand We won't go up in smoke Fates colliding Love undying Like the rising tide Beating hearts grow but never die To simplify I'll stand by your side Close my eyes Hope will never die Like the rising tide Beating hearts grow but never die To simplify I'll stand by your side Close my eyes Hope will never die GO! And take away the pain of being me Soothe my soul caress my heart and end my fear all my bad memories Eradicated RING! Like gunshots heard against a silent night My love is louder than these words They're stronger than the rest, unstoppable Drawn together Painter's brush stroke Slight of hand We won't go up in smoke Fates colliding Love undying Like the rising tide Beating hearts grow but never die To simplify I'll stand by your side Close my eyes Hope will never die (Never die) Like the rising tide Beating hearts grow but never die To simplify I'll stand by your side Close my eyes Hope will never die Will never die Drawn together Painter's brush stroke Slight of hand We won't go up in smoke Fates colliding Love undying Like the Rising tide Beating hearts grow but never die To Simplify I ...

Brandon Flowers ~ Cover of U2`s 'If God Will Send His Angels" Amazing performance, would love to see this being released someday.Loved the look on his face @ 5.00 Nobody else here baby No one here to blame No one to point the finger It's just you and me and the rain (This verse not on the City of Angels soundtrack.) Nobody made you do it No one put words in your mouth Nobody here taking orders When love took a train heading south It's the blind leading the blond It's the stuff, it's the stuff of country songs if God will send his angels And if God will send a sign And if God will send his angels Would everything be alright? God has got his phone off the hook, babe Would he even pick up if he could It's been a while since we saw that child Hanging 'round this neighbourhood You see his mother dealing in a doorway See Father Christmas with a begging bowl And Jesus sister's eyes are a blister The High Street never looked so low It's the blind leading the blond It's the cops collecting for the cons If God will send his angels And if God will send a sign Well if God will send his angels... Where do we go? Where do we go? Jesus never let me down You know Jesus used to show me the score Then they put Jesus in show business Now it's hard to get in the door, angel It's the stuff, it's the stuff of country songs But I guess it was something to go on So where is the hope and where is the faith And the love...what's that you say to me Does love...light up your Christmas Tree The next ...

Lydia and the Swans That Come Round

Her soul is dark
She pins her dreams out on a clothesline
waiting for the sun to meet her in a closet
to revive unread plans.

I think she wore a jasmine in her hair
the last time that I saw her.
I can't remember.
I do remember that the swans came round
scolded me
for not accepting second chances.

Lydia had a box of sequins
that she kept inside her pocket.
She was seen sewing them to the moon
and making requests for sainthood.
I stood there in the glow
and admired her confidence.

I felt jealous of her travels
and her boldness.
She told me later that she saw me
standing in the doorway.
I did not tell her I was waiting for approval.

I keep in contact with her
now and then.
I ask her what to wear
and music she has heard
that I might like.
She always tells me I look best in lavender
but I know that isn't true.

I lost her trust many years ago.

We met at a train station
went on a journey.
We had intentions of creating fresh stories
new swan songs.
Well... she did at least.
I was haunted by a confined mind.
I could not think beyond the mermaid
she held captured in a jar.
I guess I related too much.
I could only think of how to free her.

It doesn't really matter
I say that to myself
as I unfold and refold
the pieces of art we made together.

Lydia's eyes are even darker now
that's the rumor.
Yet I will always admire her
and her quest to capture sparrows
unlocked by wings of depraved
but well meaning caretakers.
Lydia claims she means to heal them.

And the mermaid?
She traveled well.
I bring her jasmine in the summer
and gifts of chocolate and green tea.
I keep sequins in the jar she came in
reminding me of train stations
words that could not find their way
and swans that come round.

Mind Over Matter - Manifesting Your Dreams

Process for Conscious Manifesting

Overview:

The following are guidelines for becoming an active and conscious manifester in your life. We human beings are constantly manifesting. The power to manifest is already a part of you. It is your Being. We manifest through our body, mind and soul. Our thoughts, words, and actions are our tools. We manifest in our lives that upon which we focus. Most people manifest passively and unconsciously; they are victims of how their unconscious thoughts and words manifest outcomes in their lives. It is very important for us, who want to be conscious manifesters, to become exquisitely aware of what we focus on, consciously and unconsciously, and how to directly engage our thoughts, words and actions so that we are more productively working towards creating our heart's desires. These simple steps will help you become more conscious and more directly involved in manifesting your goals and dreams. If you are a helping professional like a therapist, coach or hypnotherapist, you may facilitate your clients towards manifesting their life goals using this process, as well as use it for yourself.

1. Choosing a Goal to Manifest.

Make sure that your goal is your own; that is one that is congruent to your own desires and to who you are as a person. It will not work, for instance, to try to manifest your parent's goals for you to be a politician when you really want to be a dancer. You and only you can decide if this goal is truly important and of value.

2. The Importance of Manifesting with Intention.

Make sure that your goal is moving towards what you want, not what you don't want. Get specific about the details or qualities of what you want. Brainstorm and make a list of these details.

3. Reinforcing with Affirmations.

Write an affirmation that includes the specifics of your goal. Be positive. Use present tense. Relate it to yourself as coming to you at just the right time and for the highest good of all. Give the statement some "juice" or emotion. Example "I love to public speak to and inspire 100's of people."

4. Doing a "Body Check".

Say your affirmation aloud and feel it in your body. Make sure that it feels right and important to you, especially in your heart chakra. If it doesn't feel right, keep working on the specifics until it does feel right.

At this stage you may become aware of limiting beliefs, unconscious attitudes or negative self talk that need clearing. Muscle testing can be used to check for psychological reversal. Inner work with EFT or Hypnotherapy may be needed to clear the unconscious blocks.

5. Engaging the Unconscious.

Using hypnosis and creative visualization skills, close your eyes and say the affirmation. Allow yourself to experience being your future self, the person who has already manifested the goal. Awaken all of your inner senses and experience what you feel, see, hear, sense, think and if appropriate taste and smell. Associate in the experience as fully as possible. The unconscious is now engaging in the manifesting process! Use hypnotic skill rehearsal techniques to be in the moment the person who has already manifested his or her goal.

6. Anchor your Goal.

Choose a word, phrase, an image or a feeling that come to you when in trance that will be your anchor to reinforce the positive experience of stepping into your future self.

7. Give it substance.

Draw a picture, make a sandtray, take a photograph, find a symbol or make a collage of what you want. Keep it in view of your daily activities. What color or colors are the essence of your goal? When thinking of your goal you can use your anchors and put a big ball of energy over your head that is the color of your goal. Allow the color and feelings of energy to move into your aura and body to give it space to manifest through you and in your life.

8. Let it go.

Now release this color or feeling through your solar plexus. Surrender it to the Universe. Letting it go is very important to the manifesting process. As a part of the energy mechanics of life, the vibration of your thought and words have been released and broadcast into the universe so that they can attract to you opportunities and what you need. Be where you are right now. Know that what is at this moment is perfect and right.

9. Know it as Reality.

There is no time in spirit. It does, however take time for goals to manifest in physical plane reality. Know that your goal will manifest in the time and way it is best for you. The Law of Cause and Effect is in action. "Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find, Knock and it shall be opened unto you." Manifesting is a process that takes time. You can support it by acting as if you already have what you want. Validate even the smallest steps.

10. Take Action.

Manifesting is a process. Give your manifesting process attention. Every day do something towards making your goal a reality. The universe will give you signs along the way that will lead you on the path of manifesting. Stay alert to the opportunities that show up. Use your intuition and explore those opportunities that get your attention. Follow up on the cosmic "leads" that appear. Engage in your life as a part of the process. Stay open and receptive to opportunities coming in surprising ways. Work with your affirmation daily. Write it out and place it in a conspicuous place so you will see it as you go about your daily routines. Stop any negative language or limiting thoughts. Use EFT and hypnotherapy to delete any negative programs that show up.

11. Give thanks.

Hold gratitude in your heart for the abundance of the universe and the knowing that you are manifesting opportunities and exactly what you need for your goal to manifest. Celebrate and enjoy the process.

12. Use your other resources.

Once you get started, you can see "obstacles" as opportunities to self-navigate and get back on track. Use the manifesting process as an opportunity to flush out any blocks or unconscious beliefs. Use tools for transformation like hypnosis or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to clear t he blocks. The process of conscious manifesting will hone your soul and spirit and will keep your ego in check! Conscious manifesting is one of the tools of a spiritual master. You are a spiritual master in training!

Book Review - King of Sword and Sky by CL Wilson

King of Sword and Sky is the third in a four book fantasy romance series Tairen Soul. Rain the Fey King, who is also a tairen (a magical, winged cat of the Fading Lands) was sent to the mortal lands, Celieria, to find the answer that would save the dying tairen. While there, he finds his truemate, a wood carver's daughter, Ellysetta (Ellie) Barrista. Upon meeting Tairen Soul, Ellie discovers, her true being - she is not mortal but both Fey and tairen.

In this third installment King of Sword and Sky, we find Ellie traveling to the Fading Lands to help find out what is killing the tairen and to stop the Evil Mage from destroying the world. (is he destroying the whole world or just the fading lands?)(He's destroying everything) She is welcomed into the Mists of the Fading Lands with mixed feelings.. Bearing the marks on her soul of the evil High Mage, Vadim Maur, there is uncertainty as to whether she is there to bring hope and salvation, or death and destruction.

And this is where I say - run and read the books. Because how do you condense an epic into a cohesive review? It's not easy; there are many characters, a tightly built world with rules and history, and an intricate plot. The pacing in all three books is tight, and there's one end goal for both good and evil - their own reign. How each gets there is the beauty of the series. Each character is well defined with well written dialogue; every sentence advances the plot, giving the reader more information about the mysteries of the Fey, The Fading Lands and the evil Mage.

The author's ability to write about shining pure beautiful magic on one hand and the deepest darkest evil you've ever seen on the other is rather remarkable. The evil scenes drip off the page, and they aren't always explicit. Ms. Wilson can make the reader shiver to their bone, with the mere mention of the evil Mage or one of his subordinates walking into a room.

Rain and Ellie are truemates, but they must complete their bond. This doesn't happen overnight, they must come to know one another emotionally and trust one another and themselves for the bond to be complete. As of this book they aren't there yet. But what does happen is the growth of their emotional ties, their increased understanding of each other, and their respect and deep feelings for one another. And isn't that what a love story should be? Ellie may have started as a simple wood carver's daughter, but she grows in her strength, her judgment, her compassion, and her powers. She will defend what she thinks is right to the death as will her truemate Rain. They make a powerful, believable couple.

For anyone who loves fantasy, the author has created a world filled with magic and deep history. If you love romance, this is a love story between two beings that is deep and stretches the span of time. This is not a stand alone book. You will want to start with the Lord of the Fading Lands, and I promise, you won't be able to stop.

Kung Fu Eye-Training

This introduction to Eye Training Arts or 'Ienshu' recognises the eyes as the foremost and most used organs of perception and thus, by implication, the most valuable for a Martial Artist to train. The following article sets out three basic drills and practice routines to help with this.

The eyes are a vital feature of human beingness ' The... windows of the soul,' says a popular maxim. To be a martial artist and not to train them is folly! Why? Because you might encounter someone who has-if so then watch out! But it would be better still if you had the invisible advantage which eye-training provides. Training in this area (Iengong) is considered a fundamental basic 'Gong' or 'Kung' in Shaolin Kung Fu, alongside 'Muyugong' (ability to withstand blows). and Qigong (breath control) and others.

Eight Sectors Eye Training Exercise

Keep your head still, look towards the wall on your left and then towards the wall on your right and back again. Do this eight times. Repeat this the other way around (look right first then left and back eight times). Now look at the floor then the ceiling and back again eight times before repeating the exercise the other way around eight times similarly. Next (remember--keep your head still throughout) stare left diagonally upwards and then right diagonally downwards and back eight times. Then repeat the exercise in reverse (look right, downwards, then left and upwards diagonally and back eight times) Finally, stare upwards, diagonally, to your right and then downwards similarly left and back eight times. Repeat this in the opposite direction (look downwards left diagonally then upwards right and back) for eight repetitions and the whole exercise is complete.

Congratulations! Having just surveyed the eight compass points/directions of your environment (eight times each) you will (after many repetitions) begin to notice small things others miss, things out-of-place, that were there earlier--tiny openings in guards or defences for instance (linked to knowledge of vital point strikes this can represent real progress if you have a good teacher).

Candle Meditation

Eye training can be taken forwards in a number of ways and candle meditation is one of these: 5-10 minutes sustained meditation on a tea light's flickering flame, in a darkened room, increases one's ability to concentrate on a fixed point. Place a sheet of green tissue or crepe paper between you and your view of the flame (you may need to construct a frame of some kind to facilitate this) and your ability to see in darkened rooms will improve.

Two-Way Rotation

Rub your thumb and first two fingers of both hands together until the latter are warm. Place the fingers gently on your eyeballs (lids closed) and then rotate your eyes eight times clockwise and then a further eight in the opposite direction. This helps train and strengthen the muscles involved in focusing.

Perform these exercises 3--5 times a week for best results. Small improvements should begin after 2--3 months practice. Maintain this momentum for a year or more and then check how you are doing at darts, table-soccer, pool, table tennis etc and you should note performance-improvements indicative of those you have transferred imperceptibly to your martial arts.

Find a Husband the Right Way

If you've found this article, I have to assume that you aren't just looking to "get a guy," or "attract a guy," etc. Instead, I'd be willing to bet that you're looking to find a long term soul mate with whom you can be in the ultimate, committed relationship (marriage.) You probably already suspect that the process of finding a mature, good man who is marriage material with whom you will be happy to spend the rest of your life is very different from finding a man to date or just hang out with. This is not some ordinary guy you are looking for. This is your soul mate or "the one," and it can seem like a very tall order or difficult process, but it doesn't have to be this way and you can learn a lot about yourself in the process. This article will explain the right way to find a husband.

To Find A Husband, First You Need To Find (And Intimately Know) Yourself: I can already hear you groaning, but please hear me out because I know this to be true both from personal experience and through my research.

It's very difficult to find a husband who will make you happy for the rest of your life if you don't have a very strong handle on who you are and exactly what it takes to make you happy. Most women make the mistake of thinking or assuming that bells and sirens will go off when their future husband walks through the door or that they will "know him when they see him."

While this sounds good in theory, I so often see women who attract the wrong men over and over. Or, they let someone who would make them blissfully happy slide right through their fingers without a second glance because they are unaware of what they really want and need in a husband.

Many women make the mistake of thinking they have a "type," when what they really have is a personality with whom they have many failed relationships and keep repeating this process trying to "right" the train. I know from my own experience that I was attracting men who were all wrong for me because I was trying to fix and work out the same relationship over and over again.

This kind of stubbornness and ignorance about what would make me happy rather than frustrated wasted much time and created a lot of negative feelings and self esteem issues. Thank goodness I learned that it was high time for serious change.

Once You're Clear On What You Want, Accept (and Attract) Nothing Less: I have learned that once you work on yourself and what you really want (this takes some serious soul searching and work, but it is so worth it) a strange thing happens. You will start to attract the men who fit the bill and you'll more easily spot (and can then discard) the men who fall short.

And, I firmly believe you should weed through and purge those who obviously fall short. I'm talking about men who are selfish, abusive, immature, and self centered and who place you and your needs last from the start. (I used to think I could change this type of men or "love them through it.") I've learned that you shouldn't waste your time with these men or think you can "change him." See and understand that he is not marriage material, (but many men are) and move on.

While you should always give any decent, well meaning, and sincere man a fair chance, it's also not fair to allow a man (and yourself) to waste his time or misplace his efforts when you just know he isn't ultimately the man you are going to marry (if what you are truly looking for is a husband.)

Many women make the mistake of just hanging out or casually and serially dating men they know they aren't going to marry which is really just wasting the time they could spend with their future husband or soul mate.

That said, often long lasting, committed relationships take time to develop, so don't make the mistake of outright rejecting someone with whom you have compatibility, affection, and a similar world view just because they don't want to get married tomorrow, which leads me to:

Don't Let Your Agenda To Find A Husband Get Married Show And Scare Your Soul Mate Off: The biggest mistake I see women make is looking for a husband rather than looking for a soul mate. What I mean by that is that some women get in such a rush to walk down the aisle that they get tunnel vision toward any man willing to marry them.

I am pretty sure that what you really want is a loving, committed, mature relationship which will eventually naturally lead toward marriage. So, look toward the man first and the marriage as a distant second that you will address later down the road. It doesn't make any sense to get married at all cost just so you can be married and eventually divorce because you are incompatible.

Such desperate behavior leads to traits that are very unattractive and "high maintenance" to a man - clinging, being needy, pressing for a commitment too soon, etc. Even if a man "is the one," loves you more than life itself, and would marry you in the future, this clingy behavior could well scare him off.

Remember that if you are clear on yourself, your abilities, and your needs, you can often keep this behavior at bay by knowing that you yourself are whole, capable and happy - you are just looking for someone to share this with.

And, if you keep all these things in mind, I have no doubt that your future husband will present himself, you will act accordingly, and everything else will eventually fall into place.

Jack Canfield - Motivator and Coach

The very first seminar I ever went to was Jack Canfield's "Self Esteem And Peak Performance" in 1989. My journey on the road to self improvement started there and I'm still learning!

Jack Canfield is an American motivational speaker and author. He is best known as the co-creator of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" book series. According to USA Today, Canfield and his writing partner, Mark Victor Hansen, were the top-selling authors in the United States in 1997.

Canfield is the founder of "Self Esteem Seminars" in Santa Barbara, and "The Foundation for Self Esteem" in Culver City, California. The stated mission of Self Esteem Seminars is to train entrepreneurs, educators, corporate leaders and employees to achieve their personal and professional goals. The focus of The Foundation for Self Esteem is to train social workers, welfare recipients and human resource professionals.

In 1990, he shared with Hansen his idea for the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. After three years, the two had compiled sixty-eight stories.

Canfield's book, "The Success Principles" (2005), shares 64 principles that he claims can make people more successful. In 2006, he appeared in the DVD, "The Secret," and shared his insights on the Law of Attraction and tips for achieving success in personal and professional life.

His newest book is "Key to Living the Law of Attraction" & Companion Gratitude Journal. This book is a simple 'how to' guide for using the Law of Attraction to create the life you desire. Within these pages, Canfield clearly explains not only what you need to know, but what you need to do in order to attract what you want in your life.

Jack Canfield has also collaborated with Bob Proctor, another contributor to "The Secret", to run their successful coaching program "The Science of Getting Rich". This is where Proctor and Canfield have distinguished themselves... they Understand... they Apply... and they are Masters at Transferring the Science of Getting Rich to others. They are two of the most powerful coaches in the world today.
