In Memory Of Rocky

The sweetest little soul died at Xmas time, his name was Rocky. He was a cheeky, boisterous Pomeranian, only young, about 16 weeks. He made an impression around Double Bay in his short time here, and he certainly livened up his Puppy Pre-school class. Unfortunately, however, he bolted out his front gate and was hit by a car. He'd seen a friend of his over the road and wanted to go and play. As you can imagine his Mum was distraught. She came to me in tears to tell me he wouldn't be coming to Puppy class that night. Horrible. I can only imagine the misery I would feel if something like this happened to my Chewy.

This sad event put me in mind of how important it is for us to respect the fact that dogs and cars just don't mix. Rocky's death was a horrible accident, but many other sad road deaths can be avoided. For every time I have been asked to train someone's dog to walk off lead, I have equally been told of sad cases of dogs being hit by cars. Think about it. What possible concept can a dog have of the danger of a car? They know that if they get in one they get to hang their heads out the window and have the wind blow their jowls about. THAT'S FUN. They love to watch the scenery change as it moves along. MORE FUN. They can associate a car drive with arriving at the park for a fun walk. DEFINITELY FUN. They can also associate being asked to get back in it with leaving the park. NOT SO MUCH FUN. But what can they possibly fathom about effects of speeding metal and coming into contact with it.

If I am asked to train a dog to safely walk along the road off lead I say I can't do it, it's not safe, and can never be guaranteed. Chewy walks along by my side on her lead, when we come to a road and I say 'wait', she does. I then say 'O.K.' to release her from this and she walks briskly across the road. Would she do this off lead? Yes she would. Would I risk doing it, not on your life. How can you be certain that something will not attract your dog, or frighten them causing them to run out onto the road? What is the desire to have your dog walking off lead anyway? If you want your hands free, get a jogging lead that fixes around your waist. Is it considered 'cool' to have your dog walking nicely at your side off leash? I don't know the answer to this; I only know what the result can be from doing it.

This hasn't been one of my more pleasant 'Thoughts', but hopefully it will make some people think before they unnecessarily risk their dog's well being, or even save a few lives.

And if it does we can chalk those lives up to the memory of Rocky.

Psychic Premonition and Precognition

Inner Knowing
Imagine being able to tell something is going to happen...before it happens! Premonition is an inner warning of something yet to occur. In is not based on information coming through the five senses. It is more of an inner sense that comes from deep within the human soul that offers safety and protection.

Still Small Voice
Many times in our lives we have what is a still small voice inside of us, some call it intuition, tell us about hunches and feelings of how life situations are going to turn out. Sometimes we listen to ourselves but many times we do not. We often do wish to appear illogical or irrational in front of others. After all where did this inner information come from? We often allow group opinion to sway us and forget about the expansive universal energy inside of ourselves.

Precognition
Precognition is often called a psychic sense. The sensing of events before they happen is not new. There is an inner spirit deep inside that sometimes has a chance to express itself and warn us if danger and the negative life situations up ahead. It is called precognition. You know something is going to come into reality before it actually does in fact. Let us see how this works.

Pool of Consciousness
If on a subtle quantum level all of our minds were somehow linked to different forms of energy and matter this would indeed be possible. Imagine a large swimming pool filled with water. You can dip you toes into the pool whenever it suits you. You have access to the pool.

There is a data stream of consciousness that people can tap into where facts and figures reside outside of the realm of normal everyday waking awareness. Once you reach this different stream of knowing you can find out about things. Preknowing about events is called premonition. Once you know about it this inner psychic sense becomes very useful.

Applied Psychic Energy
Imagine you are about to get onto a train and you knew it was going to crash beforehand. Would you still board the train? No way not on your sweet life! The premonition feeling you experienced just saved your life.

Often before major airline, ship, and train crashes many individuals have an inner feeling something bad is going to happen. Dozens, in fact hundreds, experience this negative energy at the same time before the event occurs. This is called group forewarning. A collective of people all experience precognition at the same time about the same event. It is very common. It even happened with the Titanic and many canceled or changed their plans before this fateful ship set out on its journey. For some people by listening to their premonition it saved their lives.

A Clear Mind
To receive valid psychic input it is important to keep your mind clear and free from tension and worry. Cool and calm emotions are best for premonition receptivity.

A warning about the future can sometimes come in a dream. Keep an open mind, maybe even write down the dream, as it may contain useful information for you. A healthy interest in premonition might, in the end, save you much heartache.

Requirements For Car Rental Services

Rental cars can make a lot of situations much easier. If your car has broken down or has been in a wreck it is very convenient to be able to rent one. If you are going on a business trip that will require that you fly to your location, it is nice to be able to rent a car, especially if you are traveling around for more than one meeting.

Going on vacation? This is a fantastic time to avail yourself of the ease of renting a car whether you use it for a road trip, or to travel in once you reach your destination another way. Rental cars are very convenient to have, and with online capabilities, very convenient to reserve.

If you require a rental car, there are three things you need to have. The first is a valid drivers license. This is an obvious necessity, as it is illegal to drive any car without a license, much less someone else's that you are paying to borrow. No rental car company would be interested in the liability of not only putting an unlicensed driver on the road, but doing so in one of their vehicles. If you do not have license, you will not be allowed to rent a car.

You will also need a credit or debit car to make your reservation. If you are going to reserve your car online, this will make this a very easy process. Car rental agencies require a way to charge you if you do not honor your reservation if there is a requirement that you do. Also, they will be able to procure a down payment, so that you will be more likely to show up for the car that they have reserved for you. If you don't have a credit or debit card, call the rental agency and see if there is something else that you can do, but most people do have one or both of these cards, so using one to place a reservation is usually now required.

Valid insurance is another requirement for anyone interested in renting a car. Most states require that anyone driving also not only have, but carry proof of, current valid insurance information. If you do not have personal insurance, a rental car agency will provide some for you, at an additional cost of course.

The rental agency also has comprehensive insurance on the car that is included in all rental prices whether you have your own insurance or not. In any case, being careful with your rental car should preclude your need for knowing too much about the insurance you will have.

Why You Need to Strength Train

It is so frustrating to me that with all the information out there about the benefits of regular exercise that even intelligent, educated, regular gym-goers often view it almost exclusively as a weight management tool.

I'm all in favor of people dumping excess body fat but the physical, mental and emotional benefits of regular physical activity absolutely dwarf the weight control aspect. Studies have shown that inactive people of appropriate weight are at higher risk for many diseases than active people who are overweight. Just because someone is thin doesn't mean they're healthy and fit.

Besides improving body composition, lowering body fat and boosting metabolism, these are some of the many benefits of strength training:

Increases bone density (helps prevent osteoporosis)
Lowers blood pressure
Improves glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity (reducing your risk for type 2 diabetes)
Elevates mood (reducing the risk of depression)
Increases muscle strength (without resistance training, adults lose about one-half pound of muscle per year)
Reduces gastrointestinal transit time (helps you be more regular)
Improves joint health (reducing arthritis pain and stiffness)
Boosts your immune system (you'll get sick less often)
Increases your blood level of HDL (good) cholesterol
Improves sleep quality
Lowers your resting heart rate (your heart doesn't have to work as hard)
Improves flexibility
Increases tendon and ligament strength
Improves posture
Decreases your risk of injury
Improves self-esteem, confidence and self-worth
Increases energy
Maintains or improves lower back strength
Improves balance, mobility and stability (which helps prevent falls)
Maintains or improves mental sharpness (helps prevent Alzheimer's and dementia)

The bottom line is that strength training improves your quality of life. It reduces the risk of injury and assorted diseases. Stronger muscles make everyday chores easier and help you maintain your independence as you age.

So, if you don't already, start lifting weights. You'll feel better, you'll look better and you'll be healthier, whether or not you need to shed any weight.

Spain's Top Ten Attractions

Spain is absolutely bursting with places to see and things to do. These are my top ten must-see attractions.

THE ALHAMBRA PALACE - GRANADA

The 'Red Palace' is one of Spain's most important historical monuments and tourist attractions. Having been under both Christian and Moslem control, The Alhambra has benefitted and blossomed as each of its owners has added more buildings. The oldest part of the Alahambra is the Alcazaba, which was built upon the ruins of a 9th century fort. The world famous gardens are unbelievably beautiful.

THE MEZQUITA - CORDOBA

It's a Christian church, but you wouldn't believe it at first glance; that's because it used to be a Mosque. The pillars and arches you have to pass through to reach the Catholic shrines are wonderfully Arabic. The building dates back to 796 AD. If you're within 200 miles, go and see it; you won't be disappointed.

BARCELONA

Revelling under Gaudi's influence, Barcelona is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Both modern and historical; Spanish yet fiercely Catalan. Connected by the high speed train and excellent air links, this city is magnificent and accessible.

LA TOMATINA - BUNYOL NEAR VALENCIA

This has to be one of the craziest fiestas ever conceived. It is simply one giant tomato fight, taking place every August and transforming the normally sleepy village of Bunyol into a mad house. The population of 9,000 swells to 30,000 during the festival, so book early if you want to go, as every hotel and hostel puts up the 'no vacancies sign months before the event. An hourly train service runs from Valencia, but take a change of clothes if you intend using it.

SKIING - SIERRA NEVADA

One of the wonderful, quirky features that Spain can boast is sunny beaches and skiing. From the Sierra Nevada Mountains, you can be on the beach sun-bathing within an hour, so it's skiing in the morning and water skiing in the afternoon if you fancy it.

GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM - BILBAO

The American architect Frank O. Gehry designed this impressive structure. It sits on a 32,500 square metre site in the heart of Bilbao and has become a major icon of the city. The structure is an unusual amalgamation of blocks and curves covered by titanium scales. The vast La Salve Bridge actually passes through the building.

ROMAN RUINS - MERIDA

Able to hold 6000 spectators, the Roman Theatre is one of the premier sights of Merida. The nearby Anfiteatro was the site of battles between Roman gladiators and could hold as may as 15,000 people. The political and cultural centre of Hispania Rome, Merida was conquered by the Muslims in 713 A.D. After a 500 year period of decline the city was virtually abandoned until the 1500's.

CUENCA

Somewhat of a hidden gem, Cuenca will leave a huge impression on you. Amongst its many impressive features are the 'Hanging Houses' which cling precariously to the side of the gorge. The Cathedral of Cuenca was built in the early 13th Century on the site of a former mosque. The facade had to be rebuilt in the early 20th Century after the collapse of the Giraldillo Tower.

TAPAS - ANYWHERE YOU LIKE

But preferably in Andalucía. There's nothing quite like enjoying tapas with a glass of wine in the sunshine. The history of Tapas can be traced back to the Moorish presence in Spain between the 7th and 15th centuries AD. The Moors had a love for small dishes with exotic ingredients such as peppers, almonds, garlic and saffron. This influenced a cross over to Spanish culture and has become one of Spain's most renowned culinary traditions.

WHITE VILLAGES

It's well worth the time and effort to visit one of Spain's numerous white villages. The south of Spain is littered with these pueblos, some more accustomed to tourism than others. Bear in mind that even the busiest of villages will close up at two o'clock for a siesta. Of course the bars and cafes will remain open, so you'll just have to chill with the rest of them.

Spain has much more to offer than the suggestions I have made, and as I said, this is just my opinion. The thing to do is get out there yourself and try it; you'll have so much fun proving me wrong.
